Welcome to the summer issue of Avenues. We have been very busy
here at the Pine Street Foundation since last we wrote, including:
Launching the landmark
Pine Street Foundation Survival Study
This study may tell us whether cancer patients who continue with long-term
use of herbal and vitamin therapy after completion of conventional treatment
survive longer than those who do not. The results of this study will
help inform the design of a prospective randomized controlled trial.

The Sixth Annual
Chinese Medical Health Screening
This annual educational event took place on April 17th and was
an overwhelming success. Practitioners of Chinese medicine from all over
the San Francisco Bay Area gathered to screen hundreds of members of
the general public using Chinese medical diagnostic techniques. Click here for photos.
This issue of Avenues also contains the next article in our Becoming
Your Own Advocate series. This quarter, we discuss how patients
can talk with their physician about their use of complementary and
alternative medicines. Patients are increasingly using such health
modalities and keeping physicians informed is important. Click here to
read this article.
Lastly, we would like to take a moment to formally introduce three
new board members: Bonnie Frank, Joanna Lennon, and Hillary Peterson.
Each of these remarkable and accomplished individuals brings to the Pine
Street Foundation valuable business and non-profit expertise and an incredible
passion for our organization's mission. We look forward to working with
them closely during their two-year term.
